Speech Therapy Services

WHAT IS SPEECH THERAPY?

Speech therapy is conducted by a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who provides specialized services for pediatrics and adults. The field of speech pathology encompasses challenges patients may experience with communication, swallowing, voice and cognition.

All assessments and treatment plans are highly individualized for each patient, targeting goals that allow efficient and effective communication in multiple environments. Additionally, caregiver education and coaching is provided, when appropriate, in order to further support patient success outside of the treatment room.

SPECIFIC DISORDER AREAS WE TREAT:

  • Speech Production: Difficulty producing speech, poor intelligibility of speech/slurred speech, or reduced fluency (stuttering)
  • Language Disorders: Difficulty understanding language, using language, changes with writing and reading, sharing thoughts or ideas
  • Swallowing/Feeding: Challenges with eating or drinking, picky eating, oral motor dysfunction
  • Voice: Changes in voice production such as reduced volume or hoarseness
  • Cognitive-Communication: Focusing on cognitive functions such as memory, attention, insight & judgment, organization, orientation, reasoning, problem-solving, and executive function; addressing how these impact activities of daily living and effective communication

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

There are a variety of specific conditions that may cause the above communication, swallowing, and voice challenges. These conditions can be present from birth (congenital) or acquired, from injuries such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, or a progressive neurological disease. Our SLP is trained to work closely with individuals with impairments following a stroke, those with dementia or other memory impairments, and swallowing difficulties.
